Somatic Experiencing & Addressing Trauma

Somatic Experiencing is a method for addressing traumatic stress held in the body. Past trauma can leave us feeling overwhelmed and constantly reacting. Our nervous system’s life-saving coping mechanisms (Fight, Flight, Freeze, Appease, Dissociate) often run to excess once we no longer need them to.

By paying attention to what is happening in your nervous system, we find ways to help your body find its natural rhythm of self-regulation. This can make it easier for you to remember your internal resources and to rediscover your capacity and resilience, allowing the possibility for greater aliveness, connection, joy and creativity.

I am not a therapist. Somatic Experiencing can be used as a stand alone modality or in conjunction with therapy. Many people engaged in ongoing therapy find Somatic Experiencing a useful additional tool for working with trauma through the body.
